Happy 5th Birthday The Scone Goddess

Happy 5th Birthday The Scone Goddess

Five years ago I baked about 50 scones to sell at the United Farmers Market of Maine. A gold banner with The Scone Goddess name, a name I was asked to change, hung above my borrowed table. My 11 year old daughter, Izzi, and I pasted smiles on our faces and hoped to meet new friends, and maybe make a difference somehow along the way. She offered scone samples that no one could refuse from such a sweet child. Even people who did not like scones took them, with intention to toss them once they found a bin. My daughter would watch these people in earnest. Waiting for the realization to hit them. They would stop dead in their tracks with a huge look of surprise. Izzi would turn to me and say, "We got another one, Mom." Week after week, I baked more and more scones and sold out every time. We made so many new friends and giggled about all of the "scone haters" that were now our best customers. We truly belonged to a wonderful community. Our wish had come true.

Five years later, as we celebrate our birthday with The First Annual Scone Festival, the rain slogged down only to stop abruptly and allow the sun to dry us, then soak us again in the humid air. Yet, our community, our friends, our fans, showed up. It was a colorful collection of umbrellas. The bands played. The scones were enjoyed. About three quarters of the way through our event, I stepped up to the microphone to announce the scone contest. Looking at everyone who cared so much to attend on such an unforgivably miserable day just about brought me to tears. I am so grateful to have started this company, It was never my intention to become the next Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines. I just wanted to be a part of the magic of Maine and hopefully make a difference along the way.

The Scone Goddess has had the privilege of raising thousands of dollars toward food insecurity; supplying thousands of pounds of food with the help of our friends. We have supported the dancers, traveling students, domestic abuse survivors, the homeless and the sick. We have motivated people to start their own business and provided light to those who have suffered loss.

My heart is full.

My children all work with me. My husband claims he is "A Lucky Guy." I am so lucky for his never ending support. My parents, always willing to lend an ear or provide trusted advice, flew in from The Finger Lakes to help with the festival, bringing their enthusiasm and joy to the day.

My heart is full.

Our town, Northport, has been our cheerleader. Robin, the Town Clerk letting me rush in for a last minute trailer registration. Toupie patiently walking me through zoning requirements. The Selectboard and Planning Commission showing such enthusiasm for each new building project. James, the Town Administrator helping to write a grant for our growth, and Vicki, making sure the funds get to me asap. They all showed up to celebrate The Scone Goddess. I was celebrating my luck as I saw so many faces of my community in the crowd at our festival.

My heart is full.

This year, The Scone Goddess has made some serious inroads in getting our brand to market. We sell direct to our scone fans via our website in all 50 states. We won best new product at the New England Made Spring Show and are so thrilled to be offered via retail partners in 11 states now, with some pretty exciting announcements ahead of us. We are offered in our first major chain, The Paper Store. This relationship makes my heart sing as they are also a family run business.

My heart is full.

Until we outgrow our space, we are here to bake you scones, make you premium mixes and serve you with kindness and a smile. My dream of meeting my community and making a difference has become my reality. I am so proud to employ so many talented and committed people. Adam, Lauren, Angelica, Marcia, Kaylie, Andy, Riah and Izzi. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You are the best!

To The Scone Goddess Fans. Thank you for saying we are

"The Best Scone You Have Ever Had!"

My heart is full.
